- SMAG (Salaire Minimum Agricole Garanti): it applies to agricultural workers. Set at 21.336 TND per day in 2026, it will rise to 22.400 TND in 2027 then 23.520 TND in 2028. Skill bonuses are added for specialized and qualified workers.
Average salary by sector in Tunisia
According to the INS, the average gross monthly salary (including contributions) stood at around 2,700 TND in 2025, rising steadily from 1,715 TND in 2018. The net salary received by most employees is, however, much lower: market estimates place the median net salary at around 900 to 1,000 TND per month. The best-paying sectors are mining and energy, banking and insurance, ICT and business services, while textiles, agriculture and local services remain at the bottom of the scale.
Salaries in Tunis and major cities vs the regions
Regional disparities remain significant: Tunis, Sfax and Sousse concentrate skilled jobs and the highest salaries, while the interior of the country (Kasserine, Kairouan, Gafsa) shows markedly lower pay and higher unemployment. The average salary in Tunis is generally 20 % to 30 % higher than in the interior regions, according to INS employment surveys.
