How is net salary calculated?

The gross-to-net transition always follows the same logic, whatever the country:

  • Social contributions: employee deduction for pension and health insurance (rate specific to each country).
  • Taxable base: gross minus contributions (and sometimes a standard or professional allowance).
  • Progressive tax: bracket schedule applied to the base, with possible family reductions.
  • Net salary = gross − contributions − tax.

The figures are an indicative estimate based on official 2026 rates and brackets (legal references cited on each country page). They do not replace a payslip or advice from an accountant or the tax authority.

Frequently asked questions about net salary in Africa

How do I calculate my net salary in Africa?

Net salary = gross salary − social contributions − income tax, using each country’s official 2026 brackets. Our calculator automatically applies the contribution rates and tax schedule of all 8 covered countries.

Which countries does the calculator cover?

8 countries: Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Mali, DRC and Ghana. More African countries will be added progressively.

Are the brackets up to date?

Yes. The brackets and rates come from the 2026 legal texts in force (DGI, DGID, GRA or each country’s social security body). Exact references are cited in each calculator’s legend and on the country pages.

Does the result replace a payslip?

No. It is an indicative estimate that does not cover specific situations (exemptions, bonuses, specific allowances, supplementary pension schemes). For a definitive figure, consult your employer or an accountant.

Does the calculation differ from country to country?

Yes, significantly. Social contribution rates and tax brackets vary widely: for example Morocco’s CNSS is 4.48% while Tunisia’s is 9.68%. That is why selecting the right country is essential.
